Choose an architect as early in the process as possible. It’s never too soon to start planning. In fact, the earlier you involve an architect, the faster things will move through design and construction. Plus, the quality of the final product will be even better. The more information that is shared, the more chance there is for a successful project.
Become familiar with three important aspects of your architect’s professional skills: technical competence, personal service, and design ability. Each is critical to a successful project. You want an architect who understands what you want and is able to translate that into the design that is right for you.
After you have selected your architect, continue to ask questions. (There are no dumb questions.) Communication is very important. Tell the architect what you know and what you expect. Ask for an explanation of anything you don’t understand. Remember the architect has a wealth of knowledge and experience and is there to help you with anything you need. Why not take advantage?
